Art Journey – Exhibitions {Part 2} from Factotum of Arts

Sorry for the delay in this post. The last quarter of 2022 was so busy as I was transitioning my out of my job and the company I worked for, for 24 years. Also, in December I got to go Morocco and came back from traveling with COVID. It was a very interesting year end.

Just a reminder, this is what I have found or done on my journey moving from being a quilter to a textile artist. This may or may not be the best path for you. Let’s talk about how to get into an exhibition and ...

Making my cicada quilt, Cicadence, step by step from Splendiferous

Cicadence, 2020, 24 x 24 inches

Here’s what I started with:  packet with fat quarter of this fabric, and a sheet inside with the rules.  Rules: must use recognizable amount of challenge fabric, no bigger than 24 x 24, and must have a wing in it somewhere.  The challenge was supposed to be for 2020, but we know how that went.  I had already started it, so I kept going, and hid the finished quilt for almost an entire year.  Since it was made in 2020, I had no idea about Brood X hatching this year, and what a ...

Barbed wire and Beauty from Sew Sunshine

17" x 17.5"
paint on fabric
hand and machine quilted

This small art piece I created in the textile artist group on fb. The idea was to try all sorts of mark making tools, cut it up and stitch it back together. Since quilting is my thing I cut apart and stitched back together with hand work and machine work.
"Barbed wire and the beauty beneath" is an ode to the pasture land my husband and I have been trying to clean up. Beneath all the grass and dead trees were huge rolls of barbed wire and fencing wire ...

The call of the Magpie from Bizarre Quilter

When I listed this at the facebook group: The Spiritual Co-Op Group online market, I dind't know it would sell within the first 7 minutes of listing!

It's one of those one of a kind pieces, I ordered one fabric and it just came to life after I stitched it.

It was bought by a dear soul who will use it to cast runes upon. She connects with magpie spirit animal.

I can even hear magpies singing in my head now as I type this.

Spirit animals are a very powerful concept.

I wish I could order more ...

Michael’s Roses from Eric the Quilter

A quick little series I did over the last week is called ‘Michael’s Roses’. It’s 16 pieces, and now I only have 11 of them because the titular Michael has piece number 12. One of these days I’ll get a scan of it, but for now, you can enjoy pieces 1 through 16 minus #12. They are 8 by 10 prints, and soon you’ll be able to see some of them at Promise You Art House in Highland, In!

Michael’s Rose #1

Follow the jump for the rest of the pieces…

Artist Spotlight: Maddie Ley from Eric the Quilter

Today I have the great honor of giving the monthly Artist Spotlight to Maddie Ley! (Yes, it’s a new thing I’m doing. Monthly Artist Spotlights!) I met Maddie about a year ago, and I can tell you, she is one astounding talented human! I was there when she got that rigid heddle loom from a mutual friend. I can claim I saw parts of the beginning!

From the Amazing Maddie herself:

I’ve been absorbing and teaching myself fiber art for about a year and a half, and I didn’t start a consistent art practice until after ...
